Although the government has agreed on the national level to pay the salaries of teachers and school staff monthly, the teachers of Khandachakra Municipality have started a protest on Tuesday, complaining that they have not received their salaries for 6 months.
On Tuesday, the representatives of the teachers’ professional association under the leadership of Khandachakra Nagar Samiti of the Teachers’ Federation submitted a two-point memorandum to the Mayor Kamal Bahadur Shahi with a 5-day ultimatum.
The team of teachers led by Pavitra Shahi, president of the Teachers’ Federation, Khandachakra, complained that the failure to pay the teachers for 6 months was the inability and irresponsibility of the municipality and warned that a phased movement would be announced within 5 days if all the teaching staff were not paid.
‘How did we manage expenses for 6/6 months?’ Expressing her complaint, she asked, “When will the trend of the city’s public representatives and employees eating their salaries and allowances and only paying teachers end?” “Some schools with internal funds have managed it”, she said. Other employees of the city Eat regular salary and allowance, get only teachers? What kind of good governance is this?’ He told that there is a problem that even the chief administrative officer is not able to function because the municipal system cannot function.
In the memorandum submitted by the Federation of Teachers to the city head Shahi, it is mentioned that the salary and allowances of all the teachers, school staff, child teachers, federal grants and city grants should be released and the grant money should be released including mid-day meals, textbooks, scholarships.
Stating that it is sad that the teachers have not been paid yet, City Chief Kamal Bahadur Shahi promised that the city’s education, youth and sports department will release the salary allowance as soon as the documents of all the schools are submitted to the accounts.
But Baliraj Shahi of the branch has claimed that the documents were prepared and submitted to the accounting branch on February 18. However, Ashok Bhandari, Head of Accounts Branch, said that the salary of the teachers was stopped due to the lack of documents due to the city’s decision to give salary allowance to all schools through electronic fund transfer (EFT) system.
The employees of the health department here have also complained that they have not received their salary yet. Pras Baliraj Shahi of Education Branch informed that there are 39 schools, 64 Child Development Centers in Khandachakra, 300 teachers, child development center facilitators and school staff. According to him, an amount of 50 million will be spent to withdraw the current salary and allowance.
